Campbell and Diana Calder, his wife, Hastigrow: b. Reiss: educ. Killimster, Stanstill, Bower and Wick High School: enlist Sept. 3rd, 1914. At Battle of Loos, his bn., being one of "Kitchiners": went to Salionica in Nov. 1915: there till July 1918. He says "The shortage of supplies caused the delay in proceeding to the front: I helped to build the famousdefence works during my years in Salonica. In July 1917 I took part in the attack on the Bulgar positions in the Struma Valley,which was not all we wished, our casualties being very heavy. Transferred to France we joined Gen. Birdwood's Fifth Army,being the first troops to enter Lille after the German evacuation. Later had a pleasant time near Brussels among the friendly Belgians". Holds the 1914-15 star, W.M. and V.M.11 He began military service on 20 September 1915 at France, , landed in France 20 Sept 1915.
